Oscars, Schmoscars: ‘Game of Thrones’ is Coming Back
The Academy Awards happened last night, and you’re probably still feeling a lot of things about them, and most of those feelings are probably disappointment of some variety. If you’re concerned with the state of entertainment, at least there’s one thing to look forward to—Game of Thrones is coming back in less than a month! And over the weekend, HBO released the trailer for the third season, where everything gets real and everyone is out for blood and once again, fans will roll the dice and pray their favorite characters don’t get killed off (spoiler alert unless you’ve read the books: they probably do).
When we last left things in Westeros, everyone was still reeling from the Battle of the Blackwater, Joffrey is still King/the worst, Winterfell was ablaze, Tyrion is no longer Hand of the King, Daenerys got her groove back (and by her groove, we mean her dragons), Arya is on the run and Jon Snow is still in the middle of nowhere. Now, everyone, as with literally everything on Game of Thrones, wants power, revenge, sex, or some combination of the three, and will stop at nothing to achieve it. There are some ominous jump-cuts, references to people meeting their fate, at least one Viking funeral, and an excellent sweeping shot of Daenerys about to lead some people into battle like the badass Khaleesi she is. Let’s do this.
