Last week wasn’t all about wizards. Sure, the latest Harry Potter film was released in theaters and caused a slew of die-hard fans to camp out overnight, but for the first time they had to share the fanatical spotlight with some serious fashion devotees. On Saturday, November 20, at 8:00 a.m., the Lanvin x H&M collection pre-launched at select stores, and aspirational Lanvin fans, who weren’t lucky enough to attend the acclaimed haute couture show and shopping event last Thursday, began to line up in front of stores the night before. Some went as far as to travel from out-of-state to ensure they had first dibs on the line before it officially hits all 200 stores worldwide next Tuesday. And while this isn’t the first high-fashion meets high-street collaboration (H&M has also linked up with lines like Viktor & Rolf and Sonia Rykiel), this is definitely one of the most historic collaborations and buzz generators in recent times.
In case you missed it, the good people over at Racked NY set up a live feed of the madness in line and inside H&M’s Fifth Avenue flagship on 51st Street. Highlights include a coffee backpack (really), a wristband debacle, real-life fashion hoarders, feisty line-goers, and false alarms.
