Don’t be fooled by the somewhat straightforward menu of this Mission Italian restaurant. Its grilled calamari, spaghetti with tomatoes and garlic, and roast chicken have made it one of the consistently-good restaurants in the Bay Area for the last couple of years. Steps from Dolores Park, it’s a true neighborhood staple, obvious in both the crowd and the bread served from nearby Tartine Bakery. Not to mention, it’s next-door to Bi-Rite creamery so you can easily cleanse your garlic-y palate.
