Re-Opening: The W Ibiza Gets a Second ‘Debut’ w/ Two New Epicurean Venues

At this time last year, it was practically unconscionable to even think about sweaty dancefloors, and the kind of all night – and into morning – bumping and grinding that has kept Ibiza awash in tourism dollars all these many decades. And in the twelve months since then, it’s fairly safe to say that international clubbing has taken its worst hit since Rudy Giuliani became Mayor of New York City in 1993, as obviously its entire business model was basically a blueprint for super-spreading the coronavirus.

Despite this, W went ahead and opened its first hotel on the popular Balearic island (in the quieter town of Santa Eulalia), surely with the understanding that things would not be picking up until at least the summer of 2021. Which, if you hadn’t been paying attention, is actually only a couple of weeks away. And so after the COVID surge caused it to close its doors for awhile, the W Ibiza at last got an official reopening last week – and we’re guessing the party people will soon be storming its check-in desk in considerable and quite enthusiastic numbers.

But to make the restart as special as possible, two new on-site venues have just debuted with this new opening. One, a private rooftop bar fittingly called Glow, boasts a strictly adults only policy – which seems reasonable, as we’re pretty sure no one is hitting a W poolside bar in Ibiza with the toddlers in tow – boasting Top DJ talent, plus yoga and meditation classes for those more inclined towards seeking their inner groove. The other is the very stylish new restaurant La Lama, a chic, contemporary steak and seafood eatery with absolutely gorgeous views out over the Mediterranean.

Both join the hotel’s already existing epicurean offerings, namely the vegetarian Ve Cafe, with produce sourced from their nearby Santa Eulalia farm; the beachside Chiringuito Blue, which looks ethereally across to the sister island of Formentera; and the W Lounge and signature WET┬« Deck, the latter with its oversized loungers and totally aces cocktail offerings.

Room categories as per W’s usual carry those amusingly hyperbolic titles, with Fabulous Rooms boasting balconies and ocean views, Spectacular Rooms each fitted with a private plunge pool, and the prodigious EWow Suite coming in at a full 100 square meters – perfect for those sorts of nights of anything goes, party-in-my-room decadence we all deserve to give ourselves right now.

Of course, we also deserve no small measure of luxurious pampering. And the W Ibiza’s AWAY Spa is equipped with six private treatment rooms, offering couple’s massages, eye and face treatments, even fitness counseling and makeup services – obviously so you can look your smashing best at cocktail hour.

With the recent opening of totally fab new Concepci├│ by Nobis hotel in Palma de Mallorca (just a 45 minute flight away), Spanish island hopping would certainly seem like the ideal strategy for breaking out of the quarantine doldrums and doing it in exceptional style. We’ll catch you poolside, naturally.
