Mother’s Day Indulgence: Rocco Forte Hotels Debuts the Irene Forte Spas in Italy

For all of the very grown up adventures we’ve had, when times are difficult – you know, deadly viruses, Capitol insurrections, the threat of nuclear war – no one comforts us like our moms, who, let’s face it, just seem to possess a deeper level of wisdom and understanding. And having survived all of this long enough to witness the arrival of another Mother’s Day this May 8, we thought it only right to focus our attention on just what might be the most appropriate splurge to treat her to in such anxious times…and the launch of the new Irene Forte Spas easily shot straight to the top of the list.

Of course, nothing says “Voglio bene alla tua mamma” (“I love you mom”) like a trip to Italy. And one of our all time favorite hospitality concerns, Rocco Forte Hotels, is debuting the new wellness brand at four of their plush Italian properties: Villa Igiea in Palermo, Verdura Resort in Sicily, Masseria Torre Maizza in Puglia, and Hotel de la Ville in Rome.

If it’s not immediately obvious, this is most definitely a family affair, as Irene Forte is the daughter of Sir Rocco Forte, founder of the luxury boutique hotel group that has continued to redefine five-star style and service since launching in 1996 with the Balmoral in Edinburgh. And RFH’s combination of understated contemporary elegance and cultivated epicurean indulgence continues to set it distinctly apart from more predictable competitors like the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton.

A natural outgrowth of Irene Forte Skincare, the new spas will bring a very Mediterranean brand of wellness to a quartet of hotels that have already been lauded for exemplary pampering. And not just physical, but spiritual and emotional health are all addressed, the latter two especially critical at the other end of a very long and very fatal pandemic, which has left behind its own unique versions of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Each spa is notably a uniquely immersive experience – to wit, at Masseria Torre Maizza, it is located amidst the Puglian olive groves. And at Villa Igiea it comes with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Palermo. Locally made Burgio Bells, which date back to the 15th Century, are rung to begin and end each treatment in truly dramatic fashion.

And reaching far beyond the expected, treatments range from the intensive to the ethereal. To wit, Body Transforming Endosphères for skin revitalization, the Sicilian-scented Olive Oil Body Ritual, the Forte Purifier using an Ultrasonic Spatula for meticulous skin cleansing, and the Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage, for a comprehensive elimination of harmful toxins. (The Irene Forte skincare products used are certified vegan and clinically approved for sensitive skin.)

And since it is more urgent than ever to put positive energy out into the world, Irene Forte Spas have partnered with The Amethyst Trust, a Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care, to provide therapies for those fighting and recovering from cancer.

Of course, a spa weekend in Italy is surely a Mother’s Day gift that not only tells her how much you love her, but also reminds her that you care about her well-being. And, well, it’s also something we all might want to consider treating ourselves to, as a remedy to the anxieties of the last twenty-five months.

Buona festa della mamma!
