Descended from an occultist grandmother and often bedecked for the darker side of living, England’s Daisy Victoria is nevertheless not to be mistaken for just another Siouxsie tryer. Indeed, most shockingly, she has occasionally been photographed in full pastel splendor.
Having stirred up a buzz back in Blighty, even earning generally hard-won plaudits from influential UK DJ Lauren Laverne, the self-professed “pessimist dreamer” is now turning her attention to winning over America’s dark-hearted aesthetes. To that end, her third EP, titled Animal Lover and produced by Dan Austin (Pixies), will be out August 19.
In the meantime we’re premiering here the title track, which is a curious tale of a chap who lives with, well, a lot of animals. Ms. Daisy’s glorious vocal histrionics are on full display, recalling both Mme. Sioux’s and Kate Bush’s way with a dramatically sung arc. The music, however, is more likely to have you thinking of Britpop glamourpusses Elastica and Suede.
Imagine.
