Gaga, Gay Pride and More This Weekend
The weather is delightful as I scoot off to the Borgata in Atlantic City to go goo over Gaga, who is playing Boardwalk Hall tomorrow at 8pm. I love Atlantic City. I have been a steady goer since Bally’s opened in 1979. This time of year the beautiful ocean competes with the shows, casinos, and boardwalk for my affections. I’ll tell you all about it next week. Because I am away, I won’t be doing my Uncle Steve with Uncle Mike DJ gig tonight up on the roof at Rooftop 48 (605 West 48th Street). Instead, Gabby Meija who DJs under the name Camp Gabby will take my spot. From now on she will be known as Aunt Gabby.
I will also miss Blues and Art at Life on Mars Gallery (56 Bogart Street, Brooklyn) today at 6pm. I will enjoy the Borgata pools, sadly too far to enjoy dear friend John Davis’ event The 3 Kings of House, featuring the legendary DJs David Morales, Louie Vega and Tony Humphries. That starts tonight at 9pm at Sankeys (29 West 36th Street). There are more Gay Pride events than can be mentioned, but tonights soiree’ at BPM’s Click weekly looks hot. It features Ivan Gomez from Barcelona, local hero Tony Moran and the UK’s Wayne G. BPM is located at 516 West 42nd Street.
Tommorrow, Saturday,June 28, as I “Shoot The Freak” on the AC Boardwalk, back here in NYC it’s Club Classics live with the amazing Ultra Naté, Kevin Aviance, Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin, Sam Sparro, Company Freak and Norma Jean Wright formerly of Chic. It’s sort of an homage to dearly departed DJ legends Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles. It starts at 3pm at The Central Park Summerstage. If I wasn’t working on my tan, I might check out the fabulous DJ Haruka Salt at Tandem Bar (236 Troutman Street Brooklyn), or Le Bain (444 West 13th Street) presents DJ Sam Sparro and the wonderful Valissa Yoe. Susanne Bartsch is offering her Kunst Pride edition at Verboten (54 N 11th Street) featuring La’ Fem Ladosha, the unbelievably great Shannon F of Light Asylum, Bunny Michael and Jonte’ Moaning, with DJs that include Honey Dijon.
John Blair, the legendary impressario will do his gianormous Gay Pride gala with Beto Sutter and Ric Sena at his Viva Saturday at Stage 48 (605 West 48th Street), featuring will be DJ Joe Gauthreaux. Ric Sena will stay busy with his Sunday night event Alegria Pride 2014. DJs Abel and Sao Paulo’s Renato Cecin will provide the sounds. Also on Sunday, Casey Spooner presents a fantastic Nouveau Gay Pride, which starts at 5pm with DJ sets by Casey Spooner, Lauren Flax. Gavin Russom, and for sunset Adam Dugas and Carlos Jadraque at Le Bain. If all this isn’t enough, then there is Junior Vasquez returning to us all with Love is Stronger than Pride at BPM.
I will miss it all, finding my adventure in Atlantic City. Eat, drink and be merry, and play safe.
