Zendaya Hits the ‘Streets’ For New Valentino Spring ’22 ‘Rendez-Vous’ Campaign Film
While we were still worryingly stuck under full travel restrictions in summer of 2021, Valentino gave us the wonderful gift of transporting us to the ever ethereal city of Venice, with the film of their absolutely breathtaking Valentino Des Ateliers Haute Couture presentation. Then as autumn commenced and the Delta variant of the virus saw to it that we would be locked down for at least a few more months, the exalted Italian fashion house took Zendaya to Milan, to film at the haunting Piccolo Teatro di Milano, whisking us away again at a time when Italy and all of Europe remained off limits to Americans.
Now, as we’re finally peeking our heads out from our bunkers, we’re getting to take one last Covid-era virtual trip with Valentino, this time to the fantastical Warner Bros filming lot in Burbank, California. Zendaya is again along for the journey, rocking Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli‘s vivid, vibrantly colorful Spring 2022 collection for the new Rendez-Vous campaign film.
Thanks to the magic of the movies, the Euphoria star appears to be casually going about her day on the streets of what otherwise might be assumed to be New York’s West Village – except for the very few other people around, and the almost complete lack of parked cars (what looks like a ’70’s era Ford Ltd eventually glides by). She makes a couple of stops inside for “backstage” moments, before heading back out into the sunshine, joining a group of dancers who somehow manage to be moving around rather exuberantly to The xx’s actually relatively somber track ‘Crystalised’.
What we love is that the clip conspicuously conveys a sense of genuine freedom, of stepping out again after so many months of on and of quarantines and isolation – certainly just what we need right now. And as Piccioli so decisively puts it, only Zendaya could have possibly done for the job.
“She perfectly embodies and represents what Valentino is and stands for today,” he enthuses. “She is a powerful and fierce young woman that uses her talent and her work to express herself, her values and her generation as well.”
