Watch: Christian Louboutin Returns to Jetsetting in Fall 2021 Collection Film
We have to admit it: we love airports. And other than the security lines, seriously…what’s not to love? The buzz of incessant announcements of flights leaving for Chicago, Zurich, Buenos Aires and Hong Kong, the picture window views of jets taking off and taxiing, the superfluous shopping, the afternoon cocktails, the people watching (good and bad), and that anticipatory thrill of, “When I wake up tomorrow morning, I’ll be landing in Amsterdam.”
Of course, over the last twelve months, we’ve been daydreaming quite a bit of ordering that first martini at our favorite airport lounge, and intently watching for announcements of travel bans being lifted. Surely the good people at Christian Louboutin understood this was the case for so many normally constant travelers, and so packed up the CL crew for an imaginary trip, beginning at New York’s storied JFK Airport.
Indeed, the new film for the Fall 2021 collection was shot at the newly revived and “terminally” groovy TWA Terminal (originally designed by exalted architect Eero Saarinen). It opens with the announcement, “Passengers from Flight CL1991, please proceed to gate.” It’s a reference, by the way, to Louboutin having been founded in 1991. Then, as some very sexy French music kicks in (which sounds a lot like a lost Tom Tom Club track), we see the Loubicrew cooly traversing the spectacular interiors, on their way to staff a Loubi Airways flight surely headed to somewhere unforgettably exotic.
The overall scene is impossibly fabulous, with the crew and fellow travelers all decked out in Louboutin accessories, shoes and luggage. At security check, it turns out a CL perfume bottle is so “hot” that it sets off the detector, only to have the TSA officer start dousing herself with it (we wish they were all so jaunty).
It’s not quite the same as actually being there, obviously – but it’s certainly more fun than we’ve had with anything travel related in a very long time.
