Openings: The Fendi Caffe and #Peekaboo Bar, Miami

The thing about fashion…when we’re having the dreariest of days, weeks, or months, dressing up has always had a way of lifting us out of the doldrums, and coloring our lives pink, yellow and turquoise, when all around us is just too much grey. And since the COVID lockdowns went into effect last March, we have indeed been shrouded in figurative grey.

So the new Fendi Vertigo collection, a collaboration with New York artist Sarah Coleman, arrived just in time earlier this month, bringing a bit of ’70s-inspired psychedelic grooviness to our lives when we needed it most. Coleman even reimagined the Fendi logo in a cool, trippy new way. And now the Italian fashion house is celebrating our return to relative normalness by opening one of its popular Peekaboo Bars at their Design District boutique in Miami. Meant to put a spotlight on the brand’s signature handbag of the same name (including the Vertigo versions), it allows Fendi followers to choose from more than 90 possible components – colors, materials, handles + Defender covers and straps – to create a totally personalized version of the Peekaboo Mini.

To make an appropriately exciting event of it, they also did a full takeover – inside and out – of the OTL restaurant next door, converting it into a wildly stylish Fendi Caffe. Done up in those curvy yellow Vertigo stripes, even the stools and tabletops are adorned with the wavy new logo, and hanging globe and pendant lamps are also branded with the famous FF. A menu of – naturally – sophisticated but casual Italian eats will be on offer, paired with special FF cappuccinos, perfect for those afternoon pick-me-ups during vigorous shopping sprees.

Honestly, this is precisely what we’ve been missing the last fifteen months, and exactly what we need fashion to do right now: bring a bit of brightly hued fabulousness back to our lives. And with summer promising a cautious return the shopping, sipping and general style-seeking that characterized our pre-pandemic lives, we do expect to be spending a lot of time with Fendi in the coming months.
