New Dior Signature Sunglasses Campaign Film Urges Getting Out and Dancing in Your Stylish Shades

“But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” – Matthew 6 22-23

If as it has been said that the eyes are the windows onto the soul, perhaps sunglasses could be said to serve a dual purpose – not only blocking the harmful rays of the sun, but also protecting one’s most soulful secrets from unwanted examination. And as humanity again begins to venture out into world of other people, it might actually be prudent not to give too much away when it comes to our ultimate essentialness, which has surely taken an unprecedented beating these last fourteen months of fear and quarantine.

Of course, after a year of dressing down, we also just want to look good. And a new line of Dior Signature eyewear seems poised to help us accomplish exactly that.

From Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the collection is characterized by elegant tortoiseshell and sexy black acetate, and comes in four distinct shapes: square, round, butterfly and aviator. And the temples are treated to the Christian Dior “Signature” symbol, which also adorns other seasonal accessories from the house, including the Dior Book Tote, for a sense of stylistic unity. And employing the latest technology, a new feature at allows one to virtually “try on” the sunglasses before purchasing.

The short accompanying campaign film seems to be suggesting some rather exhilarating but socially distanced nightclub. And over a Euro-cool electro-disco soundtrack, a French accented woman’s voice can be heard insisting “We are going out tonight,” before giving the commands, “Let’s disco, let’s dance!”

It’s just the sort of encouragement we need to start stepping out again into the society we have been so cruelly cut off from for so long. But when we do, be assured, we’ll be the ones hiding behind our exceedingly stylish new shades…for the time being.
