Natalie Portman Seriously Belts One Out For Dior
Anyone who saw the 2018 Brady Corbett film Vox Lux knows definitively that Natalie Portman can sing…really sing – witness her performance of ‘Wrapped Up’ as the title character. Unfortunately, a total box office take of $1.4 million means that still very, very few people are actually in possession of that information.
Ms. Portman happens to have another little side hustle, as the face of Parfums Dior since the summer of 2010. And to hail the arrival of a new edition of the French fashion house’s signature scent, pithily branded Miss Dior (which debuts today, September 1), they’ve released an exuberant new campaign film, that we just can’t get enough of. The updated fragrance itself promises to be a symphony of floral fantasy, and so the unabashedly romantically titled Wake Up For Love finds Natalie splayed out joyfully in a field of absolutely gorgeous wildflowers – where she’s appropriately bedecked in a hand painted silk gown, which is stunningly embroidered with millefiori and, of course, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
“These unusual wildflowers drawings are at a crossroads between classical influences and an extremely contemporary approach,” the Dior Creative Director explains. “Incisive lines which express a free-wheeling encounter between Dior hyper-femininity and confident, triumphant modernity.”
But in another scene, natty Natalie is driving a jeep full of those same flowers to some unspecified destination, which we’re kind of hoping will turn out to be our front door (we’d happily help her replant them in our garden). And as she’s speeding to her geographic objective, she also happens to be seriously belting out a version of Janis Joplin’s ‘Cry Baby’, which we promise will send about a hundred shivers up your tingling spine – as it did ours.
Life never smelled, or sounded so good.
