Moby Soundtracks The North Face x Gucci: Chapter 2 Campaign Film
Though there have been dire predictions that winter as we know it may very well be disappearing from various corners of the planet (despite the snowy aberration of the 2021 season, New Yorkers should pretty much give up on having white Christmases…forever), we still prefer to be prepared to look our best on those occasions when the temperatures do actually drop. Of course, as evidenced by the success of the inaugural Gucci / North Face collaboration last year, no small number of people feel the same way we do.
And as happens with such successful collabs, they’re doing it again. And so now we get The North Face x Gucci: Chapter 2, which is sure to keep us all warm and stylish until the eventual arrival of spring. For the corresponding campaign film, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele tried to imagine just where would be the ideal place to test both of those qualities. The answer, naturally: Iceland.
For the job he notably tapped the buzzworthy twin brothers Jalan and Jibril Durimel. The French – though now living in Los Angeles – photography duo have taken the fashion world by storm of late, becoming a sensation at just 28 years of age, and helming campaigns for the likes of American Apparel and Kenzo (the latter starring Tracee Ellis Ross), whilst also shooting musicians Dev Hynes, Mereba and Keith Ape. But for Gucci and North Face, they strikingly captured models traversing the ruggedly beautiful Icelandic landscape – from glaciers to fjords to waterfalls – which surely also meant fending off the chilly temps.
It’s all soundtracked by the Moby rave-era classic ‘Go,’ which actually turns 30 this year. And much as it was once a sublime sonic backdrop to ecstasy-fueled nights-into-mornings on the dancefloor, here it lends a visceral, almost haunting quality to the stunning scenery of the tiny but ethereal Scandinavian nation. And aligning with Iceland’s ongoing commitment to a more eco-friendly world, The North Face x Gucci: Chapter 2 collection is also distinctly dedicated to sustainability, with insulation certified by the Responsible Down Standard by Control Union, and fully recyclable packaging sourced from managed forests.
So yes, go ahead and bring on the cold – thanks to Gucci and The North Face, we’ll be fabulously suited to the conditions.
