Images: Nick Knight’s Ethereal Campaign for Fendi S/S 2021
While we do love a good winter’s chill, there is little doubt that what we need most right now is the sort of invigorating renewal that comes with the onset of springtime (if we actually make it that far, that is). And so the arrival of the first images of the Fendi Spring/Summer 2021 collection genuinely feels like a bright ray of sunshine hitting our weary, stress-battered countenances.
The gorgeous campaign was shot by Brit superstar snapper Nick Knight, who also helmed the campaign for the brand’s Fall/Winter ’20/’21 collection. But while that one was steeped in cool, retro (trés ’80s) glamour, his shoot for Spring/Summer 2021 is all about breezy + beautiful.
Also shot in his London studio, it stars models Mariacarla Boscono, Jill Kortleve, Malaika Holmen and Estelle Chen, the latter looking particularly provocative yet aloofly carefree in a sheer blue dress and rust-orange, above-the-elbow gloves. Shadowy images give the proceedings an almost spectral, ethereal vibe, and through a digital window one can spot a projected image of the iconic Fendi headquarters in Rome – a virtual bridge between Britain’s capital and Italy’s, at a time when real travel is so significantly restricted.
It is just the sort of fabulous we needed right now, with creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi decisively capturing the spirit of the moment. Indeed, when the reality all around us is so oppressive, getting lost in such exquisitely beautiful images, and imagining an autumn where we will be once again stepping out in Fendi finery, is all the therapy we need.
In the meanwhile, please stay safe and healthy.
