Images: Dior Chez Moi S/S 2021 Collection Promises Fashionable Lounging About
During this now-going-on-fourteen months on-and-off lockdown, fashion has existed in a strange sort of limbo. On the one hand, as those beautiful, extravagant images have flashed across our screens from virtual Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, we have realized how much we need the hopefulness of gorgeous clothes we hope to be donning come September or October, for those first real nights out in a very long time. On the other, knowing full well we’re not going to be dressing to the nines to walk from the couch to the refrigerator, there’s also something a bit melancholy about watching the digital catwalk action.
Likely the good people at Dior knew this, and last November launched their first capsule collection devoted entirely to loungewear, under the cosseting banner of Chez Moi – which translates, simply, to “home.” And as we sit still mostly hunkered down in our homes, they have just released the Chez Moi Spring/Summer 2021 collection. Previous pieces played on the classic Dior Toile de Jouy, and here the French fashion house employs it once again, but takes a turn toward the tropical, with breezy but elegant palm tree prints – in some cases strikingly laid over horizontal stripes. Dior’s iconic Oblique motif is also referenced on new dresses and shorts.
Yet another masterstroke by Dior Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the collection manages to be both exquisitely sophisticated, and yet playfully cool. And silky pajama sets, bathrobes and billowy ponchos allow for fashionable casual lounging, and also looking good even when the weather is decidedly bad.
Surely everyone is aching to get back to glittering nights, decked from head-to-toe in the glamorous results of post-pandemic shopping sprees. But in the meantime, don’t be surprised if more cosmopolitan casual wear makes its way into the socially distanced aisles of your favorite boutiques and department stores. Because those tired old sweatpants, comfy as they may be, are just not cutting it anymore.
