We haven’t even gotten to spring yet, and we’re already pining for the autumn we never really got to have in 2020. To be sure, six months into lockdowns, quarantines and death tolls, the last things we were thinking about were strolls through leaf strewn forests and, well, pumpkin picking.
But as the virus still rages around us, the first images of Alberta Ferretti‘s Pre-Fall 2021 collection have arrived – and they have us dreaming of the sort of sylvan adventures that come with the first nip of an October chill. Firstly, the color palette – which, while cleverly employing bold strokes of pink, is built exquisitely around the heritage colors of autumn: rustic oranges, regal blues, boho chartreuses, refined browns, and somber greys. Yet the silhouettes are elegant and flowy one moment, sharper edged and sort of rocker cool the next.
In fact, for an Italian designer with a decidedly modern bent, there is something distinctly Olde English about this collection, landing somewhere between ‘Tally ho!” and T-Rex – as if one might be dressing for a music festival in Epping Forest. And Signora Ferretti’s distinctive sense of femininity plays ever so nice with touches of androgyny, even eccentricity.
In fact, we would happily skip right over summer if this is what we’ll be wearing for all.
