Fran Summers Dazzles in New Alberta Ferretti Fall/Winter 2021 Campaign
When we last heard from Alberta Ferretti, we were rhapsodizing about her Pre-Fall 2021 collection, which was steeped in rustic, heritage Englishness, yet with a glammy sort of edge – “T-Rex meets tally-ho,” as we said at the time. It was an especially intriguing turn for the Italian designer. Now, some seven long pandemic months later comes a Fall/Winter 2021 collection that is decidedly more sensual, even a bit flamboyant, if we might say.
Fittingly, the campaign stars rising supermodel Fran Summers, who in 2019 – when she was just 19 years old – the Wall Street Journal called a “model to watch.” And though COVID veritably shut down the modeling business for a significant chunk of the two-and-a-half years since, her CV by now includes stints for Valentino, Burberry, Etro, Fendi, Chanel and Dior. And just as everything was going into lockdown in early 2020, she was named the new face of Givenchy Parfums – a prestige “get” if ever there was one.
For Ferretti, Ms. Summers is rocking a scene-stealing gold metallic gown one minute, a slinky black catsuit the next (shades of Emma Peel). And a glittery, disco-y ensemble (that makes her look like a very fabulous superhero) is contrasted by a particularly plush, elegantly luxuriant blue overcoat. And considering her youthfulness, she nevertheless projects an aura of confidence and self-possession that definitively defies her years.
The accompanying film, shot by Lorena Pagès, finds Ms. Summers suggestively twisting and slithering to a jittery electro soundtrack, concluding with her throwing a look that says, “I seriously own this.” It feels a lot like fashion re-exerting its eternal ability to make us feel sexy, fearless and fierce, something which has sadly been missing from our lives since the lockdowns repressed any impulse we had for dressing up.
Naturally, we appreciate the inspiration.
