Forget about jeggings. Come fall, look out for the leg warmer. The high socks have surfaced on countless runways this past fashion week. “Variations of the aerobics staple were shown at Rag & Bone, for men and women; at Michael Kors; in the first look of the Thakoon collection; at Derek Lam; and, with extra-long ones all over the runway, at Alexander Wang,” says Eric Wilson in the New York Times.
After all, with strong shoulders, sequins and sheer all having been sucked relatively dry in recent seasons, why not tap the one last untouched resource the 80s have to offer? “It did not appear to faze them that many of the guests who attended Mr. Wang’s show walked away with the impression that he had scoured for inspiration among transsexual streetwalkers,” writes Wilson. If this is the next incarnation of ‘no pants’ I, for one, will take it.
