Sofia Coppola to Design for Louis Vuitton

It’s common knowledge within the fashion industry that filmmaker Sofia Coppola and fashion designer Marc Jacobs are BFFs. Not only has Sofia inspired a handbag, not to mention starred in ads shot by Juergen Teller, for Jacobs’ namesake house’s perfume. She and her father, filmmaker Frances Ford Coppola, recently posed for Annie Leibvwitz for Louis Vuitton’s latest “Global Core Values” ads. Now, WWD reports, the Academy Award-nominated director will take a stab at designing shoes and handbags for the latter.

The foray into fashion design isn’t Coppola’s first. In fact, the Hollywood scion had an internship with Chanel under her belt before she even had her driver’s license (granted, she was 15-years-old at the time). She also launched a clothing line called Milkfed, which sold exclusively in Japan, after graduating the California Institute of the Arts and prior to pursuing a career in film. So, while the collaboration is sure to cause speculation from fashion insiders, there’s definite potential. It may even prove less controversial than Coppola’s last film…
