Kiss And (Summer) Makeup!
Girls, summer is practically upon us. It’s time to put away all that heavy holiday makeup in favor of spring’s lighter, more natural formulations! I’ve searched far and wide for the best and brightest, and I now present them to you!
First we’ve got the Collection Essential de Chanel ($85). You shouldn’t really call anything that bears the double-C logo “all-in-one,” but that’s exactly what it is. Four eyeshadows, a blush that’s perfect for all skin tones, two glowy lipsticks, and two flirty lipglosses give you all you need for the next morning, making those summer flings all the more glamorous.
Then the folks at Rimmel made a huge mess with their Underground Spin-it Lip Glosses ($7). My fave, Vertigo, shown here, might look at bit loud up front, but once spread around gives your pucker a perfectly sheer kiss.
If anybody knows anything about summer happy hours that turn into all-night affairs, it’s me. I also know a ton about not-so-happy next mornings, when it’s damn near impossible to brush your teeth, let alone get your makeup done. Thankfully, Clinique saved us a trip with Almost Powder Makeup ($22.50), providing natural coverage, all-day shine control, and SPF 15 sun protection.
For those days (and nights) where you actually have time to put your full face on, swap those dark winter hues for the lighter, sheerer spring shades—like Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Wash Eyeshadows ($20). Pictured above are eggplant, rose gold, bronze, and seashell, four of my faves, that can take your eyes from doe-y to smoky to natural and back.
Whether you’re a beach girl or the kind the sun scares, a bronzy glow is essential to summer, especially in New York, where most of the sunny days are spent under the haze of fluorescent office lights, so the last thing to pack your purse with is Clarins’s Sun Blush ($27.50), the perfect bronze blush for any skin tone. The packaging, which includes a handy mirror, makes midday retouches as easy as a day on the beach.
