Insiders’ Closets: Fashion’s Latest Obsession
Kate Moss parties in hers. But what about the rest of the fashion community? Soon you’ll have an insiders view into the closets of fashion icons across the board. Refinery29 recently started posting its findings after visiting the closet of aspiring actress and fashion week front-row fixture Becka Diamond, with more closet raids to come. Meanwhile, Myspace has its own series called “Famous Hangers,” which recently documented Paris Hilton’s two filled-to-the-brim closets. And now Style.com is following suit.
The person in charge of documenting these beacons of style is Jak & Jil’s Tommy Ton, says Fashionista. The street-style photographer has already been enlisted by Style.com as its exclusive Fashion Week photographer. But with his new gig, Ton will be leaving the catwalk (and its adjoining sidewalks) for the homes of fashion heavyweights who have yet to be revealed. In the meantime, I highly recommend hitting Style Like U, which invades the closets of everyone from Williamsburg hipsters to Gza and eccentrics who have been building their closets for decades. When resources are strapped media-wide, it’s no wonder closet raids are suddenly all the rage. Given the fact that all you need is a video camera and a fashionable celebrity or designer willing to show off, it’s as cheap and easy to produce as fashion entertainment comes.
