Barack Obama’s Inauguration Tuxedo
President-elect Barack Obama and wife Michelle have always shopped locally for threads. Kept it Chi-town union. On the campaign trail, she wore outfits from a Chicago designer (really more of a dressmaker). His suits came from Sweet Home Chicago, too. And he worked them hard, and wore them right down to threadbare fuzz. Michelle was the first to tell her man that he needed new suits. But his thousand-watt smile and crisp white shirts were distracting enough to shake snooty critics and discerning eyes. But now things are different. It’s time to get spiffy.
So, likely without the shopping stress suffered by your loving correspondent, the President-Elect has picked out his black tie formal wear for his inauguration. It’s currently being measured, cut, and stitched by none other than his hometown men’s shop Hart Schaffner & Marx. The store has two cuts of off-the-rack designs shown above, but Obama splurged and had the store tailors work up a special tux for the occasion. After all, it’s been 15 years since he’s bought black-tie wear. And to further his workingman street cred, the threads are union-made. Tough luck, Borac.
