Anna Wintour Plays Nice
Talk of just how cold Vogue‘s Anna Wintour’s heart is has been a subject of debate for years. The editor-in-chief has garnered such a reputation for her ruthlessness that she’s been dubbed an ‘Ice Queen.’ But, anyone who saw The September Issue and the fashion icon’s subsequent promotional appearances on talk shows and the like can attest to the fact that, while she may be calculating and at times cruel, she might also be kinda sweet. Take her recent New York Fashion Week behavior for instance.
In the bathroom at the AmFar benefit that kicked off fashion week, Wintour apparently snubbed a former Vogue cover girl, staring at her blankly when the retired model said hello. “The glance she gave me is one I’d give to an expired carton of milk. I am aware my expiration date (as a model) is long past, but a slight acknowledgment that I wasn’t the bathroom attendant would have been nice,” says Paulina Porizkova. Ouch.
But, wait! At the Vera Wang show this morning, after Porizkova’s account of her Wintour run-in had appeared on the Huffington Post and made its way around the blogosphere, Wintour was seen being more than affable. Wintour showed up sans sunglasses, leaving herself exposed to both flashbulbs and well-dressed stares, and according to a tweet from the Cut, “Grace Coddington just rejected a video interview on the front row of Vera. Her boss Anna, however, obliged,” And, to make matters more confusing: “aww Anna just let a girl sit next to her & take a picture–and she smiled!! (at Vera Wang)” tweeted Fashionista at the same show. So maybe Wintour isn’t such a mean-y! That, or she really is a master of PR…
