Alexander Wang Might Be Following in Mulberry & Lanvin’s Footsteps
News of designer collaborations are sprouting up all over the blogosphere this week. Mulberry for Target hit store racks, sketches from Lanvin x H&M landed on the web, and rumors are swirling that Alexander Wang might be teaming up with Nike sometime soon. Following an unprecedented pre-sale on Gilt Groupe, Mulberry’s much-anticipated follow-up collection for Target is officially up for grabs. While their mini messenger bags – all priced at under $50 – in pink leopard prints, denim, black velvet, and patent leather are causing a stir, a few bloggers have noticed that stocks seem heavily depleted. “The Gilt promotion of Mulberry sold out within a minute or two,” Guerrilla Shopper points out. When the blogger tried to shop the collection soon after its launch, the lower-priced bags were removed from her cart during check out due to a lack of goods.
Hopefully Lanvin, which just released sketches of its collection for H&M by way of a ‘behind-the-scenes’ video, won’t be following suit. A short video posted on the blog Zet Fashion (it won rights to the video as part of a contest) reveals that the ad campaign for the collection was shot by Mario Testino and stars Natasha Poly. As for the clothes themselves: expect maid outfits (as modeled by Leigh Lezark in this 48-sec film), dresses with faces on them, and one particularly chic yellow cocktail dress with an asymmetrical sleeve.
Alexander Wang might just be next in line. Rumor has it the designer is slated to release a collection in partnership with Nike, perhaps in the vein of Stella McCartney for Adidas or Hussein Chalayan for Puma. Sportswear, indeed.
