A Manhattan Pop-Up Shop On a Mission
If you’ve never thought of Manhattan’s Port Authority as a fashion destination, then think again. Online independent fashion porthole Refinery29 has set up shop in spacious corner of the aforementioned midtown locale with a mission: to “Save Fashion” (also the shop’s moniker). While the prospect may at first sound overly ambitious — especially given the downtrodden economic climate — it’s no so far-fetched. But the month-long pop-up shop’s mission might be more aptly expressed as saving your summer wardrobe without breaking the bank.
I hit the opening fete last night, and one thing is for certain: The store is chock-full of drastically marked-down fashions from a slew of Refinery29-approved designers like VPL, Boy, Catherine Holstein, Sophomore, Wren, and Madewell. Think of it as Gilt Groupe for the independent designer set brought to life. And considering the designers represented as well as Refinery29 are all independent, at least you know your hard-earned funds are going to a good place.
