‘Drag Race’ Stars Symone + Gigi Goode Don the Fancy Specs for Moschino 2021 Eyewear Campaign Film
If there were a few here and there silver linings to those untold months of COVID quarantine, one of them was definitely getting to binge the seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race that we had somehow shamefully missed the first time around. After all, no matter how bad things get, it does somehow seem that nothing else really matters when you’re tuning in to see which glorious new drag star will ultimately come out on top. (Squid Game? Whatever.)
Two of our recent faves have absolutely been Season 12’s Gigi Goode, and Season 13’s truly unforgettable Symone, who in fact did end up the winner. (Gigi was runner up the previous season, but we would certainly protest that.) And wouldn’t you know, those savvy culture vultures over at Moschino have engaged the pair for the new Fall 2021 Eyewear collection campaign film – and it’s nothing but uber fabulous.
It’s also all about the retro glamour, with the girls looking decidedly Alexis Carrington, courtesy of Creative Director Jeremy Scott, who since taking over in 2013 has decisively brought out the Italian fashion house’s more cheeky side. Scott also did creative direction on the campaign, with hairstyling by Goode, and it was shot by Marcus Mam, who has been collabing with Moschino since 2015.
The Drag Race pair camp it up without going too over the top, miming a telephone call, peering over their sunglasses at someone who surely is guilty of some or other tragic fashion faux pas (you can just tell by the look), and whispering what are no doubt a few little naughty secrets to one another. The rousing, quickening string section accompaniment only serves to add a whole other layer of drama to the proceedings.
This campaign film is obviously more fun than anyone should be having while they’re actually getting paid for it. But then again, if we had to pick the one person in the world who we would want to be our boss, it would no doubt be a toss up between Gigi and Symone.
