Balenciaga Feeds Our Stifled Wanderlust w/ Pre-Fall 2021 Campaign
Though a certain level of acceptance of the situation has ultimately set in, the fact that international travel has been almost completely shut down for more than fourteen months now is devastating in so many ways. First off, the ongoing socio-cultural exchange that comes with the flow of international visitors from country to country has become necessary to our survival as a sentient species in this, the 21st Century. And also, well, we just miss the buzz of touching down in someone else’s city.
The good people of Balenciaga surely feel the same way, as their Pre-Fall 2021 campaign is the global jaunt that we wish we could be taking, and are now even more inspired to take. Indeed, we see models decked out in the storied fashion house’s latest collection on the streets of Tokyo, in the Hollywood Hills, around Chicago, Shanghai, and pretty much all over Europe, from Berlin to Rome, Paris to Milan, and beyond. We also get an eyeful of some of the world’s most monumental monuments, including St. Louis’ Gateway Arch, the Tower of London, the Atomium in Brussels, Venice’s Basilica San Marco, and Vienna’s utterly majestic Habsburg Palace.
Creative Director Demna Gvasalia’s collection is certainly notable for its extensive efforts towards sustainability. But the styles are also as audacious as they are elegant, with bold floral print dresses, deconstructed quilted coats and trenches and, well, an oversized Hulk t-shirt. In fact, one can surely find a garment to go with any future destination – and, of course, Balenciaga have already gotten us most of the way there.
Obviously we’d rather actually be in Japan or Belgium or Italy right now. But we’re certainly happy for the virtual world tour, all the same.
