The First ‘Widows’ Trailer Promises The Gritty Crime Thriller of the Year

Oscar winner Steve McQueen’s new film Widows promises to be the gritty female-driven crime counter to the more comedic and glitzy Ocean’s 8.

Written by Gone Girl’s Gillian Flynn, it stars Viola Davis as a woman whose husband, Liam Neeson, turns out to have stolen millions from another criminal before his untimely death. Davis must rally other recently-widowed wives (Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki) to pull off a big job in order to get the money and save all of their lives.

Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Jacki Weaver and Robert Duvall round out the star-studded cast.

Widows is in theaters November 16.
