Thao & The Get Down Stay Down and Joanna Newsom Make Sweet Music Together

Virginia folk-rocker Thao Nguyen is pretty good at collaborations. There was her Record Store Day split EP with delightful Portland power-pop group The Thermals, a record with the Portland Cello Project and her heavily praised 2011 record with fellow singer-songwriter Mirah, produced by Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs. Good stuff, all.

Her fifth album with band The Get Down Stay Down, We The Common, drops February 5th, but in the meantime, we have a little taste in the form of yet another notable collaborator, unmistakably-voiced multi-instrumentalist and Portlandia guest star Joanna Newsom. The track, "Kindness Be Conceived," is a sprightly little folk number that allows both singers’ voices to to bounce around and get comfortable. Have a listen below and feel free to stomp your feet a little bit.
