‘Rolling Stone’ Ranks 100 Predictably Greatest Singers

imageRolling Stone has run one of those insufferable best-of lists that magazines love to fill empty pages with (at least the pages are getting smaller). Their RS head count predictably includes chart-toppers Aretha Franklin and Elvis, plus the likes of Björk. While a noble and poignantly introspective catalog, the list is hardly different from comparable compilations of past years.

A more inspired index would’ve taken a cue from Joaquin Phoenix and rolled out a roster of the greatest actor-turned-musicians. However, given the general dearth of musical talent in the pastures of Hollywood’s cattle ranch, the list would probably have to scrap the “Greatest” qualifier in order to achieve the full hundred and include former Huey Lewis collaborator Gwyneth Paltrow, plus Jared Leto, Scarlett Johansson, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
