The page views on Rebecca Black’s now infamous “Friday” video are well past 16 million in just over four days. And the page views on the most popular YouTube spoof of “Friday” are already well over 1.7 million. Yikes. But has anyone stopped to think about Rebecca’s feelings? The 13-year-old, who has been the butt of jokes on every outlet from Billboard to CBS, told TheDailyBeast: “Those hurtful comments really shocked me, at times, it feels like I’m being cyberbullied.” Welcome to the wonderful world of the web, Rebecca.
During a Friday appearance on Good Morning America, Black shared one of the most hurtful comments that she’s received: “I hope you cut yourself, and I hope you’ll get an eating disorder so you’ll look pretty.’” Ouch. And she went on to say, “When I first saw all the nasty comments, I did cry … I don’t think I’m the worst singer, but I don’t think I’m the best.”
Black revealed that as part of the $2,000 fee her family paid to Ark Music Factory to churn out the now viral video, she had the option of singing about “adult love” or “Friday” and, well, the rest is history. On the final version of the track, Rebecca says, “I felt like it was my personality in that song.” And in the end, that’s all that matters. Also, Chris Brown really seemed to enjoy it.
