Of Course There Is A Lana Del Rey/Biggie Mashup Tape

There have been hits, including a pretty great Ratatat remix of "Party and Bullshit," and more polarizing efforts like the "Party And Bullshit In the USA" mashup and every remix of "Juicy" ever (but especially this one). So leave it to NYC-by-way-of-Cleveland mashmaster Terry Urban, who previously gave us Viva La Hova, Lady Stardust and B.o.B.’s breakout mixtape Hi! My Name is B.o.B., to marry Big Poppa with Lana. Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Born Ready To Die.

As opposed to being a mashup that does the cute, fun, equal-parts-each mashup thing, Urban’s effort completely changes the tune of some of Biggie’s most iconic singles. Party anthem "Hypnotize" gets a dark and unsettling makeover in the backdrop of "Summertime Sadness;" the bass line from bonus track "Lolita" makes for a surprisingly fitting hook to hang "Juicy" on. Those looking for a dance party may not find it here, but it’s certainly an interesting—and for those sick of the trend, refreshing—take on what a mashup can be.
