Listen to These Brooklyn Phil Beethoven Remixes

Pierson and the team are looking to the neighborhoods to “connect with the vibrant musical traditions” of the County of Kings, and one way they’re doing it is with a Beethoven Remix competition.

But this ain’t no disco sampling of Beethoven’s Fifth. Local producers, DJs and musicians have been taking the work of Ludwig Van and bringing their own influences and interpretations to it, and the results from the five finalists are pretty rad. Finalists include Andrew McLean, a.k.a. Komplexx, the Swaggbrarians (a sextet of students from Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School), former 4 or 5 Dopes frontman and regular producer and hip-hop collaborator DJ Eddie Marz, Parts & Labor multi-instrumentalist and electronic solo artist Dan Friel, and Boima Tucker, a globally-minded contributor to the likes of WFMU and The Fader and member of Brooklyn culture and arts collective Dutty Artz.

Listen to all the finalists on the Brooklyn Phil’s SoundCloud page.
