After Opening Night, the ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’ Gang Is Going Bowling

After an estimated 180 preview performances, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark finally opens on Broadway tonight. That means that once the curtain goes down after the final act, it’s next stop: Drunkville! But if you think the cast and crew are going to toast this milestone at one of Manhattan’s swankier joints — that was the plan the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth time around — think again.

When we sat down for a conversation with Spider-Man star T.V. Carpio last week, she revealed that the opening night after-party is going down at Bowlmor Lanes in Times Square. Apparently the producers kept losing their deposits on more expensive joints following previously-scheduled parties that never quite panned out.

We guess it’s perfectly sensible for the producers of Broadway’s most expensive musical to try to save a few bucks wherever they can. Says Carpio, “They ended up losing so many down payments on really swanky places. I mean, five times. Think about it. That’s a lot of money down the drain. So of course the one time it sticks, it’s at Bowlmor Lanes. But we’ll make it fun.”
