Jarvis Cocker Saves the World, Features in New Hot Chip Single/Video ‘Straight To The Morning’

As this grinding pandemic isn’t like anything we’ve ever known, we have needed a particular sort of hero to save us from the so many daily horrors. Most of those heroes have been exceedingly brave healthcare workers, who have pulled so many back from the brink over the last seven months. And we’re also certainly praying that our two uncaped crusaders, Kamala and Joe, will succeed in a whole other sort of rescue mission come November 3.

But right now, we couldn’t be more exhilarated for the return of His Sardonic Awesomeness Jarvis Cocker, who appears on/in the groovalicious new Hot Chip single/video “Straight to the Morning.”

The track itself is an exuberant, dance-around-the-room house raver, with lush atmospherics, and totally massive, soul-rousing choruses. Jarvis is in full baritone, as he promises, “We’ve only just begun / Just begun to get it on.” In the video, he appears as an image on a low-tech looking television screen, in the chaotic, but super-good-vibed house of a family pinging back and forth between silliness, indulgence and boredom—seemingly handling the pandemic conditions fairly well. Surely not too difficult, when the former Pulp singer and his Hot Chip mates are providing the uplifting soundtrack.

“This was the very last musical session I was involved in before lockdown,” recalls the now Paris residing Monsieur Cocker. “It felt very poignant to be singing a song about dancing all night long in a club whilst knowing it wouldn’t be possible to do such a thing for the foreseeable future. We danced around the studio quite a lot in the meantime though.”

And dancing, surely, is just what the universe ordered.
