Here is the First Teaser for Harry Styles’ New Film ‘My Policeman’

June 2022 finds us in one of those rarest of pop cultural moments, where the most played/streamed/watched song in the Western World is also the absolute best song in the Western World. Of course, we’re talking about Harry Styles‘ absolutely stunning new single ‘As It Was’, which has wracked up more than 178 million views on YouTube alone, and doesn’t appear anywhere close to tapering off.

Neither does the overall Harry juggernaut seem to be headed anywhere but into the stratosphere, especially as he appears to be throwing himself into acting in earnest now. Curiously, however, rather than taking a role in some big budget cinematic extravaganza – we honestly couldn’t bear to see him sporting superhero tights – he’s chosen to star in a little curiosity of a film, the achingly titled My Policeman, which will be released into theaters October 21, and will stream globally on Amazon Prime Video as of November 4.

Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Bethan Roberts, it follows the intertwining stories of three young people – teacher Marion (Emma Corrin), museum curator Patrick (David Dawson), and policeman Tom, played by Styles – as they struggle with the social/sexual mores of a 1950s Britain, when homosexuality was still actually considered a crime (the law changed in 1967). Behind the camera is prolific theater director Michael Grandage, who paints a strikingly evocative visual picture of a bygone England, Brighton specifically, in all its old-fashioned, devil-may-care seaside pleasures.

The film later cuts to the ’90s, with Gina McKee, the always excellent Linus Roache and Rupert Everett assuming the roles of their older selves, attempting to right the terrible wrongs and betrayals of those long ago years.

Though the teaser is barely over a minute long, it’s immediately evident that Styles’ charisma continues to carry readily over to the big screen (we first saw that in 2017’s Dunkirk). And so with four months ahead before My Policeman‘s official release, we will certainly anxiously be counting down the days to its arrival.
