See a New Image From Lars von Trier’s ‘Nymphomaniac’

What says Christmas more than Lars von Trier and sex? Well, for those lucky enough to be in Denmark, not much. Yes, according to Zentropa, Lars von Trier’s sexual odyssey will be sauntering into theaters come December 25th for Danish audiences—sadly pushing back a US release date well into 2014. But we can be patient. Back in February, we learned that TrustNordisk Managing Director Rikke Ennis had declared that once Nymphomaniac has its premiere, it "will rock the entire cinema landscape," adding that this is, "von Trier’s most ambitious film to date, probably his masterpiece…it brings a smile to my face watching lust and laughter go hand in hand with such a drama." So there’s that.

And today, as Cannes gets underway sans Nymphomaniac, we’re delighted to have a new piece of art for the film, in the form of an ensemble image of its staggering cast. Here, we see Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Stacy Martin, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Connie Nielsen, Udo Kier, and Jean-Marc Barr all sexualized in one way or another.

In case you haven’t been keeping a tight watch on this, von Trier’s film is:
…a wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Skarsgård), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.
The official website for the film urges you to "Come Back May 31st" so we’ll be keeping a close eye for you.
