In Terrence Malick’s existence-spanning film, The Tree of Life, Jessica Chastain says, "The only way to be happy is to love. Unless you love, your life will flash by. Do good to them. Wonder. Hope." It’s a line that, since the first time I heard it, I have not been able to rid from my mind—her ethereal voice on loop for eternity. And with his upcoming beauty, To the Wonder, it’s almost as if he built the entire film inside that one line, dissecting what it means to love another human being, dealing with the pain of feeling so connected to something outside yourself, and the way love ebbs and flows through the mind, body, and soul.

And even before seeing the feature, Javier Bardem’s haunting voiceover from the first trailer stuck with me in the same way that Chastain’s has, on loop: you will love…you will love—whether you like it or not…love isn’t only a feeling, you give love, to love...etc. So with the UK release of To the Wonder coming up this week, France has premiered a TV spot for the film that may be sans voiceover but does feature a good amount of the stunning and emotional Hanan Townshed score.
