‘Revolutionary Road’ Trailer Better than Most Movies

I don’t have patience to watch full movies anymore. The Internet took care of that. Too many status updates, too little time. So thank God for the trailer (or teaser, or teaser/trailer), a short gist-of-it clip that’s often better than the film is likely to be (think yesterday’s clip for 2012). But today I came across a trailer that’s as great as the movie is likely to be.

Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road looks like Far From Heaven meets Little Children meets the director’s own American Beauty. Set to Cat Power’s cover of “Sea of Love,” the lush clip builds to a disturbing crescendo that perfectly captures the implacable suburban malaise that the film is built around. And Leonardo DiCaprio deserves an Oscar for this alone. Best Actor in a Trailer, no doubt.
