Lars von Trier’s ‘Nymphomaniac’ Will Digitally Morph Its Stars With Their Porn Body Doubles

Although it may not be having its premiere at Cannes this week, Lars von Trier’s upcoming sexual odyssey Nymphomaniac continues to constantly be making news. Much has been discussed about the taboo nature of the film and how that will factor into the distribution of the picture and how its actors will be taking part in its highly-sexual content. And in today’s bit of new information, producer Louise Vesth has told The Hollywood Reporter that the von Trier’s two-part feature will include "graphic" and "groundbreaking" sex scenes between the members of the cast—which stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, and Uma Therman. We learn that the more explicit sex scenes will use digital technology to morph the body-doubles with the actual stars.

Vesth claims that they, "shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two…So above the waist it will be the star and the below the waist it will be the doubles.” Now, we knew that the film was requiring a heavy amount of post-production, hence its inability to be completed in time for Cannes, but this is definitely more than anticipated.

The producer also went on to say that "Lars has thrown everything in this one. It’s about religion, about God, about philosophy,” speaking to the fact that sex may be the overarching theme but that Nymphomaniac is filled with weighty substance and not only flesh. “There’s so much to talk about with this movie. I hope he changes his mind and starts giving interviews again.”

Apparently the film will not be headed to the Venice or Toronto festivals this year and is slated for a premiere in Copenhagen before its Danish release on December 25th. We can only hope that we’ll be getting a more meaty taste of the picture in the coming months, but in the meantime, there’s plenty for the imagination.
