In November of 2011, when I sat down with the cast of Lars von Trier’s Melancholia, I spoke with Charlotte Gainsbourg about her next grueling cinematic endeavor, to which he told me that she’d be starring in Lars’ next film about a nymphomaniac. Naturally, Alexander Skarsgård excitedly responded, “My dad’s going to be in that too!”
Cut to two years in the future. The film Gainsbourg was speaking of is obviously Lars’ highly anticipated Nymphomaniac
and for the past year, we’ve been teased with snippets of information, teasers, photos, all unfolding like an tantalizing odyssey of its own. Last we heard, Nymphomaniac
—in its most recent iteration—had a running time of over five hours. And in true Lars style, the two-part psychological erotic epic drama will have its Danish premiere this Christmas—and with all hope, a US release from Magnolia in 2014. Will we see the hardcore version of the film at Cannes come May? Oh, we can only hope.
But in the meantime, today we have the latest clip from the film featuring a Christian Slater, and rounding off the first half of this two-part film. In the clip below, titled Delirium, we see a black-and-white world in which Slater plays Gainsbourg’s father. As we watch the clip unfolds from on high, Stellan Skarsgard recites Edgar Allan Poe’s "The Fall Of The House Of Usher."
See the clip below and stay tuned, we’re always keeping a close watch on this one.
