I suppose now that Hollywood has plucked Julianne Moore Hope Davis to play the part of Hillary Clinton, they’re inevitably reaching their talons out for a fresher face with a name like Sonia Sotomayor that rolls off the tongue. So! To! Maay! Orr! I could scream it from rooftops, couldn’t you? Rosie Perez could. She’d love to play America’s First Hispanic Justice on the Supreme Court in any entry-level Oscar bait that comes her way. She gushes, “Oh my God, I’d be so honored.” But as much as we are, Perez isn’t so self-assured about her inherent excellence.
“There needs to be a fearlessness in approaching that role. That’s who she is. Balancing the human being versus the judge is the biggest challenge that would face me personally. But I also think that to play her, you have to dive in and discover her true spirit. Otherwise, don’t even fucking go there. Don’t even fucking try it.” That’s a lot of fucking, Perez. But hopefully, such profanity will dissuade hack-thesps like Jennifer Lopez and Eva Mendes from even musing any offers they’ve had for the part. But she punctuates so eloquently, “It would be the chance of a lifetime. I’d be right for the role because I’m fearless. I’m afraid of everything and afraid of nothing at the same time.” And after all, it’s comeback season and Rosie Perez is overdue for her share of sun.
