Femme Power x 2: Marina + Pussy Riot Release Fierce Remix of ‘Purge The Poison’

It’s a bit of a coincidence, but certainly deliciously ironic, that as Marina releases a new remix of her rebel song ‘Purge The Poison,’ over in the Republican Party, the poison itself is undertaking the purge. Indeed, in perhaps the most unfathomable instance of Machiavellian political maneuvering ever, a disgraced presidential loser, who essentially egged on a coup of the nation’s Capitol earlier this year, is now deciding who lives or dies within the party.

So it is surely fitting that this new version of the track also features those barricade storming warriors of justice Pussy Riot – who recently turned 10 with the ferocious new single ‘TOXIC’ – as both they and Marina (whose new album Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land drops June 11) stand fiercely athwart the aforementioned poison that continues to plague our daily existence. The latter pulls no lyrical punches on ‘Purge The Poison,’ taking aim at a malignant modern world ideology that is dishonoring women, destroying the planet, and letting unchecked capitalism run roughshod over the 99% of us.

“Need to purge the poison from my system
Until human beings listen
Tell me, who do you think you are?
It’s your own decision
But your home is now your prison
You forgot that, without me, you won’t go far”

But the remix finds Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova adding the fearless rallying cry, “Matriarchy runs the state / we are here to dominate!” Which is pretty much exactly what we need right now – hand the running of the world to the women!

“Political pop has always been my dream genre,” she enthuses. “Catchy and contagious, ‘Purge The Poison’ is an ear-worm, and it feeds your brain with the right questions and encourages you to think. I was blown away by this track, and it’s my pleasure to be on the remix. In my part I reflect on topics of sisterhood, female and queer power, matriarchy, Christianity and female sexuality.”

So, yes, just another indomitable day in the life.
