Pre-Super Bowl Drinking Venues, Tampa Style

Super Bowl weekend promises at least two solid days of disheveled debauchery and possible late night lap dances for all those attending; while Tampa has yet to make the illustrious list of cities we cover with an online guide, BlackBook put together a list of places where you can gracefully blend with the locals who are peeing their pants over the most exciting thing to happen to Tampa since…ever.

Downtown Tampa Fly Bar – Chic cocktails and a decent menu, with location central to downtown hotels. Rooftop deck perfect for fair weather nights. Downstairs boasts stage with live jazz or reggae acts Thurs. – Sat. Jackson’s – Derek Jeter’s preferred macking ground shows no resemblance to 40/40…thank god. Gorgeous waterfront bar and restaurant with four separate rooms catering to different types of music lovers i.e. 80’s/rock, hip-hop, Top 40, etc. Crowd is made up of Tampa’s sugar daddies and the money-grubbing women who love ‘em.

Taps – Newcomer to Tampa’s nightlife scene located on first floor of recently built luxury condos, SkyPoint Towers. Two different rooms, two different vibes, 250 different beers. Splitsville– Upscale bar and bowling lanes in the heart of waterfront Channelside plaza. Hint: don’t bring your bowling shirt. This place is known for its guest DJ’s and a perpetually-packed dance floor. Stiletto-rocking college girls blend well with Tampa Bay Buc’s trophy wives in baby-doll dresses and extra-shiny lip gloss. Drink prices not conducive to your grandpa’s bowling alley.

SoHo Tampa’s Hyde Park area is made up of mostly single business professionals and recent college grads who can afford it. Best bars, restaurants, and shopping all within walking distance. SoHo stands for South of Howard Ave.. How original.

MacDintons– Fixture in Tampa’s “SoHo” area. Not your average Irish Pub, with an oversized outdoor wooden deck that makes for great daytime drinking and three bars to choose from. Everyone goes here. Heat lamps for those frigid 60 degree nights. DJ accompanies small dance floor inside, sometimes doubles as slip n’ slide for the unexpecting. Cheap– Every D-bag who went straight from college to a starting salary at J.P. Morgan goes to Cheap to flex their over-stimulated biceps in tiny tee’s for the bleach blonde, post surgery college girls to swoon at. No, you’re not in New Jersey. Though the boys have legit tans, there’s absolutely no justifying all that hair gel. Recently expanded to twice its size serving tapas, wine, and pink drinks at a very non-cheap price. Irony. How cute. Mangrove’s– Still on the radar, but slightly low-key compared to half a mile down Howard where lines start to form around midnight. Elegant bar and covered patio, DJ and make-shift dance floor. Private cabanas equivalent to NY bottle service digs, but without the bottle service; Tampa hasn’t caught up to that concept yet, possibly better off.
