It’s hardly spring and we’re counting down the days ’til fall… Adidas Originals announced their latest designer collaborator; after filing Stella McCartney, Yohji Yamamoto, and even Kanye West under their belt, Adidas is on to London-based Mary Katrantzou, whose mega-printed, mega-colorful designs will grace athletic wear and sneakers come November. Adidas plans for this relationship to go the distance — she ain’t no one season (wo)man.
In a press release, Dirk Schoenberger, Adidas’ Global Creative Director for the sports style division, said:
“The collaboration between adidas and Mary Katrantzou merges the exceptional talent of one of the most interesting designers of today and a company that embraces many different cultures from sports, pop, music and fashion. I admire Mary’s extraordinary sense of printing techniques, colours and silhouette that will bring another amazing new aesthetic to the adidas originals women’s collection.”
Katrantzou, who’s been known to turn a lampshade into a mini skirt and make it look feminine, funky, interesting, and wildly enough, pretty, is an exciting choice. How many seconds after launch will it take for the surely-kaleidoscopic sneaks to sell out?
