There are people who say pop culture is turning the world to shit; then there’s pop culture that actually is turning the world to shit. Read no further than the words “Führer Chic.” Via Trend de la Crème comes a rather (okay, intensely) revolting fashion trend floating around the other side of the world. Apparently, Hitler-wannabes aren’t just roaming the streets, but are finding new, terrible ways to put on display that ubiquitous symbol of hate, the swastika. Rocky and (his mom!) Louise Mazzilli, the infamous design duo behind the brand Voyage — based out of London — caused a loud uproar with their 2006 collection dedicated to all things Nazi; frighteningly enough, a cult of fashion followers has emerged since then. They’ve been spotted wearing “chic” Nazi-inspired uniforms and gas masks; even the ever fashion-forward Harajuku girls have been spotted in tutu-and-Hitler-mustache ensembles.
Totally righteous indignation: have they lost their minds? In a stark juxtaposition, maybe they left them in this Hello Kitty maternity ward, where they must have been born. On the other end of the spectrum, settled in Taiwan, there’s a hospital consisting of 30 beds for newborns, and enough nurses decked out in pink Hello Kitty get-ups to form their own militia. Per the Reuters report (via Babble), the hospital’s director “wish[es] that everyone who comes here … can get medical care while seeing these kitties and bring a smile to their faces, helping forget about discomfort and recover faster.” We here at BlackBook wish those babies good luck, and godspeed. If the first thing I saw after emerging from a birth canal — already a traumatic experience — was Hello Kitty, creepily smiling down at me, I’m sure I’d be damaged, too.
