Fashion Week Pop-Ups & Jazzy Throwbacks

Los Angeles’ “Fashion Week” continues, with pop-up stores and after-parties galore. Tomorrow, we’ll be hitting up a Hello Kitty event at Royal T, which is actually our idea of high fashion because we haven’t grown up much since second grade. (That’s invite-only, sorry, pals. We’ll tell you all about it.) But tonight is open to everyone at 6613 Sunset Boulevard. Sponsored by Delicious Vinyl, “Fashion Funktion,” is two-pronged: see the fashions and actually buy stuff from 2-8pm. Stick around after that, and you’ll get a half-dozen DJs spinning in the new space, dubbed “Freak City.”

Halloween is a just over a week away, and there are two events on Saturday that will get you geared up for dressing up. The Happy Shop Burlesque is back for its fall season at the Cinegrill in the Roosevelt Hotel with a Halloween-themed event. The monthly pre-1950s burlesque and vaudeville show has a full live jazz band. The first jazz set starts at 10pm, the striptease is at 11pm, and the band finishes the night out at midnight. The cast is a smorgasbord of unknowns and well-knowns, including host Ken Lally (of General Hospital), Thomasina (of Glee and My Name is Earl), and Happy Shop co-creator Dolly Sensuale.

The same night, if you wanna go even further back in time, head to Charlie Chaplin’s building, the Campanile on La Brea and Wilshire for a roving bi-monthly party, Era. It’s a cool concept — the party offers a tour of architectural gems from the 20s and offers you a chance to party inside. There are performers and, most importantly, two DJs who call themselves “Beat Ventriloquists.” It’s also a Fashion Week-connected event, so Yotom Soloman will have models showing off his latest collection.
