Cyclists Vandalize Bike Lane with New Bike Lane
Watch as a bunch of pissed-off bikers re-paint the recently erased bike lane on New York’s Bedford Avenue. They’re angry, they’ve got paint, and they’re going to restore those white figurines of man-on-bike in the middle of the night! Apparently, this 14-block stretch of Bedford bike lane de-laned ten days ago when city governments removed the bike lane for rather vague reasons, all under the guise of “safety”. Rumor has it that the real reason has to do with the Hasidic community complaining about the scantily clad female bike riders.
Whatever the reason, the cycling community is none too pleased: “We are New York City bicyclists, and our message is clear: Don’t take away our bike lanes. We use this stretch of Bedford Avenue because it is a direct route to the Williamsburg Bridge. We will continue to use it whether or not there is a bike lane there, but not having on puts at greater risks from cars. That’s why bike lanes exist — for safety. Do not try to remove them, or we will put them back for our own safety.” Menacing! They’re almost like terrorists — but for safety.
