‘CosmoGirl’ Could’ve Been a ‘Playboy’

imageThese are dire times — a whole class of Whole Foods shoppers will now have to hang their heads in shame as they frequent their less trendy and not-so-socially responsible local grocers, passing up tempeh burgers for grade-D chuck. But whether you call it recession chic or just unfortunate, media outlets across the island of New York have been scorching their good earth with notable layoffs and in few cases, some major shutdowns — R.I.P CosmoGirl.

There’s even storm clouds brewing over the once-green pastures where the Playboy bunnies frolic, in the form of 80 lost jobs. The skin mag empire will also cease production on all DVDs in order to save $12 million, aiming to crossover into the digital arena (isn’t it about time?). But with male hormones on the rise since Wall Street’s implosion and The Girls Next Door on air for another year, it’s doubtful Hef’s too irked with this restructuring. Besides, he’s got other problems to worry about.
