Are You the World’s Unluckiest Traveler?

In 2008, I was vacationing in Honduras when I was flipped off a jet ski and hit a muscle so hard I couldn’t walk. As I swam to shore, I ran into fire coral and my arm burst into wretched flames of pain. Because there was no doctor on the small island of Utila, I had to be carried to my hotel and laid in bed until my morning flight, where I was seized by a fever of 102. The worst part? I was stuck in a middle seat on the flight back to New York City. I thought I was the world’s unluckiest traveler, but I soon discovered I didn’t have it so bad, thanks to Travel Guard‘s “World’s Unluckiest Traveler” contest.

This fearless travel insurance company is almost at the end of their World’s Unluckiest Traveler campaign. Think honeymoon rashes, blood clots, hurricanes, and lost wedding dresses. Submit your own story (or vote for your favorite vacation mishap from the pool of applicants) and you could win an awesome camcorder, which they are giving away every month. The winning submissions have been battling monthly since the promotion started December 2009, and TWO grand prize winners will be crowned with a $10,000 Ultimate Dream Vacation in December (one for the story, one for a random voter). Not a bad incentive to tell the world why you suck at traveling. With less than three months left, you need to hustle. Or, if you’re like me, you can just browse through the submissions on your down time and comfort yourself knowing you’re not the worst. And vote. And win a freakin’ vacation.
